The Healing Service
The St Nic's Healing Service is a short lunchtime (1.15-1.45pm) service on the second Wednesday of each month. The service will use a simple liturgy (see below) and have times of silence to give space for quite prayer and reflection.
The healing ministry is for everyone; we all need healing in some way. Through the healing ministry, Jesus Christ meets us at our point of need. We can ask for prayer for ourselves or for another. The healing may be physical, spiritual, mental or emotional. Healing may be instant, gradual, delayed or unexpected.
We believe our prayers are complementary to the work of God through creation and through medicine.
An example of the litury is this time of prayer:
Loving Jesus, while you were on earth, you healed those who came to you. But some people were carried to you by others, or needed friends to ask you for help. So we, trusting in your goodness, bring our own needs, and others we care about, to you.
We bring to you those with physical sickness: those who suffer from long or short term illnesses, or struggle with pain or disability and the limitations these bring. We ask your help, too, for their families, friends and all who care for them.
(Here names may be mentioned silently or aloud)
We bring to you those afflicted by the nightmares of their past or by fears about their future; those whose minds are gripped by depression or anxiety, by regrets or guilt; those people who do not know what is wrong or what to pray.
(Here names may be mentioned silently or aloud)
We bring to you all who mourn, whether the end of a life of one dear to them or the breaking of a relationship in the past or in the present. We remember those who are stunned and silent, not knowing where to turn or whether life has any purpose any more.
(Here names may be mentioned silently or aloud)
We ask your blessing on all who care for the sick, counsel the distressed, sit with the dying, or advance medical research. We ask your guidance for those who work for the agencies of health and welfare, that in all they do each person may be valued, and resources found to meet every need.
(Here names may be mentioned silently or aloud)
Loving God, we give you thanks for health restored and prayers answered.
